I thought I knew who I was,
I didn't know my selfish pride
Until God gave me a different perspective,
And now I see the other side.
I'd turn a blind eye to the disabled,
Not in awe of their persistence.
Until I had to use a wheelchair,
And was dependent on assistance.
I'd be impatient with the sick,
Irritated, that on my time they depended.
Until I was ill in hospital,
And compassion from others I needed.
I sent condolences at times of loss,
That was adequate, was my belief.
Then I lost a family member,
And experienced true grief.
I thought I was walking in Your way,
I didn't see the enemy's deception.
But praise Your name You opened my eyes,
And I called for Your divine protection.
