December 2009...Grant's 21st Birthday

Twenty-one years, where did they go?
For us, your parents, too quickly,
For you, I guess too slow.

The first year, sucking on your finger, so cute,
The second, cautious of all that was new;
The third, oh how coy and watchful you were,
The fourth, quietly confident with all around you.

At five our little photographer,
With camera around neck, ventured out.
The sixth year, off to first grade
Where you learnt what school's all about.

Seven, eight, nine and ten,
Happy years of childhood way back then.
With many friends you played in the sun,
Loving nature, experimenting, having fun.

All too soon
Into a teenager you grew;
Quietly judging, doubting...
Didn't anyone understand you?

By fifteen your interests for the future were seen,
As you set your sights on what you were keen.
Sixteen, seventeen, eighteen...exploring your music and art,
Developing the passions you had from the start.

School over, what a relief!
At nineteen, freedom beyond belief.
Enjoying your photographic studies through twenty and more,
To ensure opportunities that will open the "door".

Adulthood has now come to you...
We are proud of all that you do!
~TWENTY-ONE~
We love you our precious son.

December 29 2009, for my son Grant on his 21st Birthday.

Dear Lord,

Today I pray for my son,
As he sets out on his journey in life.
Keep him safe, happy and full of fun…

As they make music they will sing,
“All my fountains are in You.”
(Psalm 87: 7)

I will sing…
I will dance…
I will spread my art around.

I will grow…
I will sow…
I will remain your son also.

Set me free…
Let me flee…
So I can be what I must be.

You let me play…
Guided me on my way…
Please Mum continue to pray.

Amen.

Do it now,
You become successful the moment you start moving
towards a worthwhile goal.
