September 2006...Aynsley

AYNSLEY - A LIFE:

At eight weeks -
He came into my life,
A small, warm bundle of soft fur.
Huge brown eyes peered out from under his black fringe.
I was smitten...
Oh what joy and laughter his puppy antics brought me.

At six months -
Lethargic, tummy extended,
resounding like a drum when patted.
The verdict - Liver failure.
We soldiered on with special diets.
And Wow!!!
How he grew and flourished!
He could have been a show dog, prancing on his toes.
A perfect specimen of a Bouvier de Flandes on the outside,
Yet what unseen damage lay within.

At three years -
His time was up, a life cut short by disease.
He lay with his head in my lap,
I shed a tear and reminisced about the wonderful times
we had spent together.
I said goodbye and he whined for me to stay
and hold him until his eyes could see no more.
I was weak, I left him with the vet,
to die alone.

Oh! Dear friends,
Do not make the same mistake as me.
Never again will I be afraid to face death,
for to desert a loved one in his hour of need,
is a heavy burden to bear.

Like our Saviour,
Our Lord Jesus Christ who called out at His death,
My God, My God, why did You abandon Me.

Aynsley, I will always remember you...
