A child kneels at the foot of his bed,
To thank the good Lord
For the first day at school
Of which he'd been scared.
"Oh, dear Jesus,
I managed, I did!
Scrubbed, brushed, polished and new,
I ventured off to school.
Mum and Dad were so proud
As I posed with a grin,
But, what butterflies
Were fluttering within.
The classroom was clean,
The pictures were bright.
Teacher told us a story,
And taught us to write.
The lessons were long,
Playtime too short.
Don’t tell Mummy I didn’t eat
All the lunch that she'd bought.
Now it is over, I did alright,
I won’t go back tomorrow,
And I bid You goodnight.
Amen."

All your children shall be taught by the Lord, and
Great shall be the peace of your children.
